Rooted · Effective 18 August 2026 · Last updated 18 August 2026

The short version

Rooted keeps everything on your device.

We do not collect your data. We do not send it anywhere. There are no accounts, no servers, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your journal, check-ins and contacts stay on your phone.

We can't see any of it. Nobody can, except whoever is holding the phone — and whatever backup your phone makes to your own Google or Apple account, which is covered below.

Who we are

Rooted is made by Jagganaut Ltd, a small app studio in New Zealand. If you have a question about privacy, email hello@jagganaut.com.

What the app stores on your device

To work, Rooted saves the following on your phone only:

All of this lives in the app's own private storage, which other apps on your phone can't read. It is never uploaded to us, and we have no ability to see it.

What we collect

Nothing.

Rooted has no accounts, no sign-in, no cloud sync, no analytics or usage statistics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party tracking or marketing software of any kind.

The app makes no network requests of its own. It has no server to talk to. We do not collect personal information, so there is nothing for us to store, sell, share or disclose — and we do not do any of those things.

Your region

So that the SOS screen can offer a crisis line that actually works where you are, Rooted reads the country setting your phone already has — just the country, nothing else, and only if you haven't chosen one yourself in settings. It is read on your device, used to pick from a list of helplines built into the app, and never sent anywhere. Rooted does not use GPS or location services.

When information leaves your device

Only when you choose an action that uses your phone's own features:

There is also one thing your phone does on its own, which is worth knowing about:

Your device's backup. If you have Android Backup or iCloud Backup switched on, your phone may include Rooted's data in the encrypted backup it makes to your own Google or Apple account. This is your operating system doing it, under your account and their privacy policy — the backup never comes to us, and we can't see or read it. If you'd rather it didn't happen, you can turn backup off for Rooted, or entirely, in your device's system settings.

Notifications

If you turn on reminders, Rooted schedules them on your device. These are local notifications: your phone shows them by itself. No push server is involved, the app holds no device token, and no notification data leaves your phone.

Reminders say nothing about what you've written — they're a general nudge to check in, or a short quote. Decline the permission and everything else still works.

Security, honestly

Your information is stored using your device's standard app storage and is protected by your device's own security — your passcode, your biometrics, and the operating system keeping apps separate from one another.

To be straightforward with you: Rooted has no PIN or biometric lock of its own, and the stored data is not separately encrypted by us. Anyone holding your unlocked phone can open the app and read your journal. Since nothing leaves the device, protecting the device itself — a passcode, a short auto-lock time — is what protects what's inside.

Keeping or deleting your information

You are in control:

One thing to know about uninstalling: if your device's backup is switched on (see above), a copy may still exist in your Google or Apple account, and reinstalling Rooted could restore it. If you want your data gone for good, use "Delete all my data" before you uninstall, and check your device's backup settings.

Because we never receive your information, there is nothing for us to delete on our side and no request you need to make of us.

Cost

Rooted is free. There are no ads, no subscriptions and no in-app purchases, so there is no payment process and no billing information involved at all.

Children

Rooted is intended for a general adult audience seeking recovery support, and is not directed at children under 13. Because the app collects no personal information and transmits nothing off the device, it does not gather personal information from children as defined by the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the UK and EU GDPR provisions on children's data, or the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

Not medical advice

Rooted is a self-help tool, not a medical device and not a substitute for professional care. If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number.

Changes to this policy

If the app changes in a way that affects privacy, we will update this policy and the "last updated" date above, and — if the change is significant — say so in the app or the store listing.
