Privacy policy

Turnleaf doesn't collect anything. There are no accounts, no servers and no analytics. Everything you write stays on your phone.

What Turnleaf stores, and where

The books you add, your reading dates, pages and ratings, your journal entries and saved quotes, your tags, moods and settings — all of it is saved in the app's own database on your device. None of it is transmitted anywhere. We can't see it, and neither can anyone else, because there is no server holding a copy.

The one thing that uses the internet

When you search for a book on the Add Book screen, the words you type are sent to Open Library, a project of the Internet Archive, so it can return matching titles. Book jacket images are loaded from Open Library's cover service, and "Find a cover" asks it for the jackets it holds for a book. Nothing else goes with those requests — nothing about you, your library or your device beyond what any web request carries. Open Library's own privacy policy applies to them.

If you add books by hand and don't look up covers, the app makes no network requests at all.

Turnleaf Pro

Turnleaf Pro is a one-time purchase made through the App Store or Google Play, and it is made with the store directly. The store takes the payment and keeps the record of the purchase against your Apple or Google account, under their terms; that is what lets you restore it on a new phone. The app never sees your card or your account, sends the purchase nowhere, and no other company is involved.

When information does leave your phone

Only when you deliberately send it, and only where you choose to send it:

In both cases the app hands the file to you. It never sends anything on its own, in the background, or without you asking.

Files you bring in

Restoring a backup or importing a Goodreads export reads only the file you pick, on your device, and sends it nowhere. Turnleaf has no connection to Goodreads; the import works from the file Goodreads lets you download yourself.

Your phone's own backup

If your phone backs itself up to iCloud or your Google account, that backup may include Turnleaf's data along with everything else on the device. That is run by Apple or Google under their terms, not by us, and you can turn it off for this app in your phone's settings.

What Turnleaf doesn't do

Children

Turnleaf doesn't knowingly hold information about anyone, children included, because it holds no information about anyone.

Deleting your information

Because everything lives on your device, you're in control of all of it. Deleting a book removes it and its journal at once; uninstalling the app removes everything. There's nothing to request from us and no copy anywhere for us to delete — so save a backup first if you want to be able to get any of it back. (The record of a Pro purchase lives with Apple or Google, not with us.)

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If Turnleaf ever starts collecting anything — it has no plans to — that will be stated here plainly and in the app before it happens.
